Dark And Bright Cave
Located in the stunning Lan Ha Bay, Dark and Bright Cave is a fascinating attraction renowned for its majestic limestone formations and rich natural habitat. As part of the Cat Ba Archipelago, this destination is perfect for nature lovers and adventurous travelers, especially those who enjoy kayaking and exploring pristine landscapes.
Dark And Bright Cave
The area is divided into two sections: Dark Cave and Bright Cave. Dark Cave is long and remains submerged by the tide, making it inaccessible for exploration. In contrast, Bright Cave is shorter and illuminated by natural sunlight. Structurally similar to Luon Cave, it features a small entrance, accessible only by kayaks or small boats.
Exploring the Dark and Bright Caves
The area is divided into two distinct caves:
- Dark Cave (Hang Tối) - This cave is long, deep, and submerged under water most of the time. Due to the impact of tides, it is no longer accessible for exploration, as it remains completely dark and hidden beneath the sea.
- Bright Cave (Hang Sáng) - In contrast, this cave is shorter and well-lit by sunlight. It has a small entrance that can only be accessed by kayaks or small boats. Passing through the entrance, visitors enter a calm circular lagoon enclosed by towering limestone cliffs covered in lush vegetation.

The Beauty of Dark and Bright Caves
These caves are typical karst formations, created over 10,000 years by seawater erosion. They belong to the three main types of caves found in Halong Bay:
- Sea caves - partially submerged and formed by waves.
- Karst caves - shaped by the dissolution of limestone.
- Ancient underground caves - created by water flowing through the rock over thousands of years.
While Dark Cave remains off-limits for safety reasons, Bright Cave offers an incredible experience:
- The arch-shaped entrance is framed by a soaring mountain, creating a picturesque setting.
- Sunlight filters through the cave, illuminating unique stalactites and rock formations.
- As visitors paddle through, they are greeted by tranquil waters, echoing droplets, and the peaceful sounds of nature.
- At the cave’s exit, a serene blue lagoon unfolds, surrounded by towering limestone cliffs and abundant greenery.
